La Cabane du Pommier holiday cottage is no longer available to rent, as we have moved house to Bergerac.
For accommodation I can recommend Les Magnolias with B&B and gites at Lalinde. It is an elegant late 19th century country house on the banks of the River Dordogne with friendly and helpful English-speaking Dutch owners Tom and Sietska Plantinga. Short walks along the river, canal or through the local fields or forest in spring or early summer will introduce you to a range of the rich local wildlife: egrets, crag martin, nightingale, hoopoe as well as a range of orchids and butterflies like the map or cleopatra which sometimes frequent the grounds. I run my Travelling Naturalist holidays from this hotel as it is ideal for our purposes and excellent value for money. Rooms or gites can be booked through Booking.com or Trip Advisor etc.
A search on the big holiday cottage websites like HomeAway or Chez Nous will come up with plenty of options for self-catering in the local area. There are also many other local hotels.
For wildlife the area is probably best visited between April and June but there is interest throughout the year as described in this website and my booklet 'Birding Dordogne' (NatureGuides 2014, only available on iTunes) and my recently published 'Crossbill (Wildlife) Guide: Dordogne' (Crossbill Guides 2018).
